Axillary Hyperhidrosis

Axillary Hyperhidrosis (armpit excessive sweating)

Botox or Dysport is virtually painlessly injected into the sweat gland bearing skin of the axillae (armpits) where it enters the nerve endings, blocking the instructions to secrete excessive watery perspiration.

Within a week or two your armpits will be wonderfully dry, permitting you to wear the shirts and tops you could only dream of before. Our patients are all ecstatic at the results which last for 6 to 9 months or longer.

Because the glands that are resposible for the malodourous component of sweat are not blocked, this is not a treatment for a bad odour (smell) problem.

The Cost:

The Botox procedure costs R4900.00. This is a great price, with greatly reduced profit margin in comparison to other Clinics, not because we are using inferior product, but becuase we desire to assist folk with this difficult problem.

The once off initial Cosultation fee is R690.00.

Medical aid will only pay part of the consultation fee (but not for the Botox).

The procedure:

You will be requested to complete a health questionaire, including a list of your current meds. It is advisable to stop any disprin or aspirin (salicilates) containing meds for 7 to 10 days before the procedure to avoid unnecesary bruising.

You will then engage in a medical consultation with our aesthetic medical doctor to assess your eligibility for the procedure. We have never neede to turn any body away before.Should you agree to the administration procedure, then the doctor can immediately proceed.

Once having mapped out the target area, he will apply a powerful local anaesthetic numbing ointment to lessen the pain. After about 10 minutes, the botox is vitually painlessly injected into the upper skin via fine needles in a grid pattern. All patients find it a little uncomfortable but very bearable, and no-one ever stopped half way due to excessive pain.

The procedure takes a total of approx half an hour to complete. You can immediately return to work and there is no down time; however do not exercise during the remainder of the day to prevent the product from being "blown out' of the target area, thus diminishing the effect.

You will need to patiently await the drying effect which will have reached its full effect by 2 weeks after the procedure.

How often do I need to repeat the treatments?

Once you feel the sweat returning in uncomfortably excessive amounts, it is time to call us again for a repeat treatment. The consult fee will not be re-charged.

The duration of the effect varies between individuals, lasting from 6 to 9 months or more. So you may require a treatment once, or at most, twice a year.

Once I start, do I need to continue treatments?

The short answer is "NO". If you never do it again, or if you only do it occasionally at long intervals, with a full return to sweating for months or years in between, there will be no harmful effects.Sweating will always return and there has never been any documented meaningful long tem change to the axilla or sweat glands.

The bottom line is that Botox for excessive sweating, administered by a well trained medical doctor, is very safe, even if repeated for decades.
